It still doesn’t make me want to give up smoking though. I’ve given up before. I didn’t like it so I started again. Even if they showed a guy strapped into a chair being forced to watch Rita Rudner stand-up while Kelly Osbourne lap dances him because he’d smoked a fag, I’d still smoke. I think these advertisers and health authorities need to roll their views back about 50 years and start telling us how good it is again. Tiny fools

Lauren: No, really, thank you. Your post on your joint decision (with Sean) to quit smoking got me thinking again about how lax my attitude to smoking has been. I used to smoke regularly, but never more than half a pack a day. Nonetheless, despite being able to give up for long, extended periods on several occasions, I have always found my way back to cigarettes–usually in the middle of a long night of partying! In recent years, I’ve allowed myself a few cigarettes on any given night out drinking, or when I’m traveling, but never on a regular basis. The upshot has been that I am forever suspended in the jonesing for a smoke and overeating to compensate phase….(it’s also possible that I’m just a fat, lazy bastard;-) But seriously, I need to do a little soul-searching and crush the association between drinking and smoking. It might require a hiatus from drinking–and perhaps a copy of the above ad tattooed to my forehead! (lol, just read your post about cheating, you naughty, naughty kids.)
